Default Shih Tzu protective over smaller dog treats?

We have a 18 week old shih tzu puppy, she is VERY LOVEABLE and LOVING,
but sometimes when she has a smaller raw hide or something ediable and
we want to take it away from her she gets VERY aggressive. She growls
and yips a lot, she hasn't bitten yet, but has come close.

Is this normal? And if not, what do we need to do to curb this
behavior?

Thanks!
Sue
